Prayers for Holy Week and Easter

Please join us in offering these special prayers for Holy Week and Easter, written by Martyn Payne, BRF volunteer and prayer advocate.

Lord of the palm procession and hosanna praise,
may your humble kingship
be the pattern of our service,
for the sake of all who suffer and are in need
along the streets of our world.
Amen

Lord of the temple courts and festival market,
may your urgent call to prayer
overturn our self-interest and religious distractions,
for the sake of all who long for peace
in the great cities of our world.
Amen

Lord of the upper room and Passover meal,
may your gift of body and blood
redefine the purpose of our lives,
for the sake of all who hunger and thirst
in the forgotten places of our world.
Amen

Lord of the midnight hour and the olive garden,
may your agonising acceptance of sacrifice
inspire the decisions of our days,
for the sake of all who long for love and compassion
in the broken relationships of our world.
Amen

Lord of execution hill and the cruel cross,
may your deliberate choice to forgive
challenge our stubborn and vengeful hearts,
for the sake of all who have been hurt and abused
by the sinfulness of our world.
Amen

Lord of holy sabbath and the silent tomb,
may your solidarity with all who have died
strengthen us to be channels of comfort and hope,
for the sake of all who live in the shadow of death
in the dark places of our world.
Amen

Lord of the Easter garden and of a new beginning,
may the groundbreaking truth that love wins
transform our tears into a living faith,
for the sake of our friends and family, our neighbours and our enemies
to whom you now offer the gift of deathless life.
Amen
