Imaginative prayer

This prayer idea comes from The Lord’s Prayer Unplugged in the chapter on ‘Your will be done’. It picks up the idea of doing what God wants, rather than just what we want.

You’ll need paper and coloured pens for everyone.

Set the scene by saying that sometimes, for Christmas or birthdays, we might make a list of what we want: a wish list of presents.

If God were making a list of what he wants, what might be on it?

Either write his list or draw the things that he might want for the world, for the lives of the people you know, for you.

Talk about what’s on the lists and draw them together with a simple prayer like ‘Our Father, thank you that you want what’s good for us all. Help us to understand what you want and to do it.’
