Deepening our prayer and spirituality

Enjoying a deeper experience of prayer

Revd Leslie Mannering, who founded The Fellowship of St. Matthew (which then became The Bible Reading Fellowship), wrote as follows about the priority of prayer:

First and foremost, prayer should be the basis of the Christian life. Could we do something to foster among the people of St. Matthew's the life of prayer, stressing, in addition to its more individual aspect, the importance of intercession? Could we encourage members of the congregation to see that this was a vital way of joining forces with God in caring for others and helping forward His Kingdom?

Revd Leslie Mannering

From the very beginning, helping people to pray has been central to what we do. Our goal is to work to transform lives and communities, but if we don't pray ourselves and don't help others to pray, what will we achieve?

Revd Leslie Mannering
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
Psalm 127:1 (NIV)
