Paul of Tarsus - Teaching Day (Saturday 2 October 2010)
Paul of Tarsus, one-time persecutor of the young Church, later a leading apostle and evangelist, has been called 'the founder of Christianity', because he was the man who gave the message of the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus its worldwide signifi cance. Some fi nd Paul a strange, aloof and puzzling individual; others - his contemporaries - often found him warm, engaging and passionate.
In modern times he has been stigmatised as a misogynist, and as the man who turned the 'simple message' of Jesus into a complicated set of doctrines. During this day we shall look at the life and teaching of Paul and try to separate the myth from the message - to engage with the man who (in the words of one of his enemies) 'turned the world upside down'.
