Exodus

The second book in both Jewish and Christian scriptures, Exodus is the story of Israel's liberation from Egypt - filled with drama and pathos, treachery and deceit, heroism and love. At the centre of the story is Moses, the baby famously set adrift in a basket who, in adulthood, led his people to freedom. As the backdrop to the covenant established between God and Israel at Mount Sinai, this book sets the stage for the detailed law-giving and narrative in the books of Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

The Revd Dr Hugh R. Page Jr is Dean of the First Year of Studies and Walter Associate Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA.
