Through the Year with JB Phillips

Devotional readings for every day
JB Phillips (ed. by Denis Duncan)
'What we need to recover is the conviction that God is not merely kindly disposed towards us, but that he is love. Some theology will not allow us to enjoy this beautiful simplicity... Consequently we are often told that God's love is not to be imagined in terms of human love, that it is higher, deeper, truer, and sterner. If we are not very much on our guard, we shall be cheated of the Good News. The inestimable comfort of knowing that God is love will be whisked away...'

This book is a compilation of Bible-based thoughts for every day of the year from the writings of JB Phillips, one of the twentieth century's foremost popular Bible communicators.

JB Phillips produced the earliest 'everyday language' translation of the New Testament - The New Testament in Modern English (Collins, 1958) - and wrote 21 books altogether, including Your God is Too Small (Epworth Press, 1952). Sales of his books topped 10 million in the UK and USA. He died in 1982.BRF is pleased to bring out a fresh edition of this compilation and introduce JB Phillips to a new generation of readers. The book is edited by the Revd Dr Denis Duncan, who is a Church of Scotland minister, author and journalist. It has a new introduction by Edwin Robertson, author and broadcaster and a close friend and colleague of JB Phillips, who compiled his autobiography from the manuscript left unfinished at his death.
